Summer is a time of celebrations – festivals, parades, carnivals and more – many of them honoring people and events that have made special contributions to our communities and country.
While there may not be a brass band, I want to invite you, as fellow traffic safety professionals, to be part of a virtual celebration of our own, A Salute to Traffic Safety Partners!
We know our individual efforts at traffic safety education, enforcement or other contributions matter each day. But at the same time, we recognize that it’s our united commitment to making our roads safer, reducing crash numbers and, most of all, saving lives, that creates long-term change.
So let’s line up for some recognition.
I’m grateful to be in a role that allows me to witness the powerful impact of collaboration—both formal and informal—each and every day.
- Minnesota Toward Zero Deaths (TZD) remains steadfast in its mission, advancing traffic safety engagement and education across all regions of our state through its core partnerships.
- The Minnesota Department of Public Safety and the Office of Traffic Safety lead critical prevention and enforcement efforts while providing the timely data that drives our work.
- MnDOT continues to enhance the safety of our roadways and travel systems.
- When crashes do occur, Emergency Medical & Trauma Services play a vital role by delivering fast, efficient care to reduce fatalities and serious injuries.
Every day across our state, Child Passenger Safety Technicians help parents and other caregivers make sure kids are safely restrained each time they ride, supported by law enforcement, fire departments, emergency responders, hospitals and other and other medical care providers.
Local police officers, sheriff’s deputies and state troopers across Minnesota are on the job daily making our roads safer from those who drive at excessive speed, distracted or impaired.
We’re supported throughout the year by the marketing and education programs made available through state and federal organizations like the National Safety Council, National Highway Transportation Administration and associations like commercial motor carrier groups. Financial support from State Farm, AAA of Minnesota and other organizations moves us forward. And we can’t forget the smaller family-run organizations who memorialize loved ones through events and ongoing advocacy.
While the challenge we all embrace is great, our combined efforts are making a difference. In my book, that’s worth celebrating every day. So, strike up the band, raise the flags, unfurl the banners and onward we march. Here’s to you, traffic safety partners!
Yours in traffic safety,
Lisa
